1998 United Way Campaign

Dear Friends:

My family and I are pleased to join with so many of you in pledging our support to United Way during this fall’s campaign. As members of the Ann Arbor community in every respect, we continue to rely on United Way’s help in assuring that the greatest health and human service needs in this area are identified and, by way of this brief campaign, met with our help.

It is the University’s goal to contribute, through commitments of its faculty and staff, close to $1 million of the $7.3 million overall campaign goal. As a University and as individual professionals, we give a lot already to this community, and I believe the people of Washtenaw County fully understand that fact. Participating in the United Way simply adds further and very personal value to our commitment.

The United Way has reinforced its intention to do the best job possible for its contributors and its recipient agencies by moving in impressive new leadership who have taken the necessary steps internally to cut budgets, eliminate duplication of services, increase public oversight and reduce fund-raising overhead. They have made the changes that we required of them.

You can contribute as you like, by personal check or through a payroll deduction. You can designate that your support go to the Community Fund or to the agency or agencies that are special to you.

Thank you for taking the time to consider the 1998 United Way Campaign of the University of Michigan. And thank you for all that you do.

Sincerely,

Regent Rebecca McGowan, chair
