Physics professor Marc H. Ross (left) and Steven R. Brechin (right), associate professor of environmental sociology, confer with Amory B. Lovins, hypercar developer and co-founder of the Rocky Mountain Institute.
Lovins addressed a standing-room-only audience in Angell Hall March 12 as part of the Environmental Theme Semester activities.
Lovins detailed plans for an ultra-light vehicle capable of energy efficiencies of 180 mpg, with improved crash safety. He also reviewed the competitive race under way among U.S. and international automakers to corner the hypercar market, which is estimated to be one-third of the world car market in 2005.
