The Department of Public Safety (DPS) is seeking assistance in identifying a man wanted in connection with a sexual assault that occurred Nov. 9 at approximately 8:30 p.m. in the Nichols Arboretum near the Geddes Road entrance, according to DPS Capt. James Smiley.

The suspect is described as a white male with a medium complexion, light-colored hair, with no glasses or facial hair, who is approximately 30 years of age and between 5’6″ and 5’9″ tall. Smiley says the man was wearing a red-and-black-checkered coat or heavy shirt and blue jeans, and a watch on his left wrist. He was last seen in the Arboretum on foot.

DPS asks anyone who may have been in the vicinity of the Arboretum and seen unusual activity or suspicious persons or vehicles the evening of Nov. 9 to contact investigators at 763-3434 or UM’s Anonymous Tip Line, the Witness Information Network at (800) 863-1355.

Smiley says DPS officers are canvassing the area and looking for witnesses. “We’re very concerned when personal assaults occur on campus. DPS has increased patrols and is determined to apprehend the suspect.”
