The University’s pledge total stands at more than twice the amount it was last year at this time, according to University United Way campaign officials. Funds pledged by this time in 1996 totaled only $77,384, about 7 percent of the total goal. This fall, the University has raised 18.34 percent of the goal, or $183,399, in the first weeks of its campaign. The goal is $1 million.

Seven units have achieved their participation goal‹a goal for the number of employees who give to United Way‹and one has received the first Gold Award in celebration of reaching 199 percent of the dollar goal set for the unit and for reaching the parti cipation goal.

United Way funds more than 42 local agencies that provide services for youth at risk and victims of domestic violence, and that provide child care, emergency food and shelter, help for the elderly and services for people with disabilities.
