A very special feature of President Lee C. Bollinger’s inauguration will be the signing of a special presentation book by ceremony participants and the signing of a companion book, also handmade, by members of the University community.
The second volume will be available for signing in the Rackham Building lobby following the ceremony in Hill Auditorium. Both eventually will reside in the Bentley Library, home of the Michigan Historical Collections.
The books were created of hand-made paper by Theodore K. Ramsay, professor of art. Included in the first volume book, which has a special Japanese-style sewn binding, are Bollinger’s oath of office, a drawing by Ramsay of the President’s House and photographs and signatures of past U-M presidents.
Members of the Board of Regents will sign the book before the Hill Auditorium ceremony. Bollinger and a number of other individuals, each representing faculty, students, staff, alumni and the citizens of Michigan, will sign during the ceremony. They include Michael Nagrant, Michigan Student Assembly; Anne R. Reeves, Rackham Student Government; Nathan Norman, Building Services; Calvin Jay Tobin, Alumni Association; and state Sen. John Schwarz.
