Career conference is March 7

Mark off March 7 on your calendar for “Looking Back, Moving Forward,” the annual day of career-oriented workshops sponsored by the Women of Color Task Force. For the past 15 years, the Task Force has presented a full day of workshops geared to personal and professional development.

The keynote address will be given by Thelma Wells, host of a local television show in Dallas, Texas, and winner of the 1988 Woman of the Year Award from the Black Women Entrepreneurs and the Minority Small-Business Person of the Year Award in 1989-90 from the United States Small Business Administration, Dallas Division.

Wells began her public speaking career more than 15 years ago by leading seminars for banking students and watching their test scores soar with their own self-esteem following her motivational speeches.

Workshop sessions, including those on career advancement, investment, mentorship, effective speaking and finance management, will be featured 8:30-10 a.m., 1:15-2:45 p.m. and 3-4:30 p.m. in the Modern Languages Building.

The fee is $15 for U-M affiliates and $35 for non-affiliates. Although the deadline for registration has passed, a number of participants will be able to register 7-8 a.m. the morning of the conference.

For the most current information on the conference and changes in workshop times, check the Task Force’s home page on the WorldWide Web at www.umich.edu/~wctf.
