Michigan Radio, School of Information team up for Internet series

A series of radio programs highlighting the features and capabilities of the Internet has debuted on Michigan Radio, the University’s radio service. Faculty and students from the School of Information are preparing the two-minute program segments.
“The rapid growth of the Internet has focused our attention on the ways in which the use of information can change our own activities and redefine our sense of community,” says Maurita Holland, associate professor and assistant to the dean for academic outreach in the School of Information. “Just as our School is developing an integrated understanding of human needs and their relationships to information systems and social structures, so, too, our radio program will explore the many ways the Internet touches our lives.
We’ll sort out the important issues that will engage our listener’s attention.”
The joint project is supported by a grant from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation to the School of Information. Transcripts and audio clips of the programs, along with selected “best links” related to the program topics, will be available on the “Internet on the Air” home page at http://www.si.umich.edu/iota/.
“Internet on the Air” can be heard Saturdays at 8:38 a.m. and 5:28 p.m. and Sundays at 9:18 a.m. on Michigan Radio. Joan Silvi will serve as host of the program.
