‘Un-Common’ courses offered at Pierpont Commons

Pierpont Commons Arts and Programs presents a menu of Un-Common Courses in February and March designed to tickle a wide variety of palates.

Ten courses are offered, ranging alphabetically from Aromatherapy to Yoga. The cost is $40, except for Meditation, which costs $20. Registrations will be accepted at the Mezzanine Level Administration Office of the Pierpont Commons until 4:30 p.m. on the day of the first class.

Kick up your heels—literally, to the accompaniment of fiddles, piano and accordion as you learn the basic steps and formations of jigs and reels in Scottish Country Dancing (7-9 p.m. Wednesdays Feb. 5-April 2), reflectively as you assume the lotus position and discover the benefits of the ancient tradition of Yoga (8-9:30 p.m. Tuesdays Feb. 4-March 18), and assertively while you enhance self-esteem and learn to protect yourself with Womyn’s Self Defense (6:30-8:30 p.m. Tuesdays Feb. 4-March 18) and with Tae-Kwon Do for all skill levels (7-9 p.m. Tuesdays Feb. 4-March 18).

Achieve peace of mind and body with the relaxing and healing qualities of herbs and flowers in fragrant Aromatherapy (times and dates TBA) or through the slow, graceful movements and relaxed breathing techniques of Tai Chi Chuan (6-7 p.m. Tuesdays Feb. 6-March 18). Relax and enjoy the benefits and techniques of Massage (7-9 p.m. Wednesdays Feb. 5-March 12) and through the practice of Meditation (9:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Feb. 15 or 7:30-9:30 p.m. Feb. 20).

Belly up and learn how to make over 100 drinks—using colored water, not alcohol—with Outbar bartender Ken Mallwitz. Sessions are offered 6-8 p.m. Tuesdays Feb. 3-March 17 or 6-8 p.m. Mondays Feb. 5-March 19. Students receive a certificate of graduation upon completion.

No classes will be held during the week of March 3 due to spring break. Call Carmen at 764-7544 for more information.
