Faculty, staff salary increases average just over 4 percent for 1996
Faculty and staff salary increases at the U-M this year averaged just over 4 percent, according to the University’s Salary Record released yesterday (Nov. 25).
Faculty salary increases at the Ann Arbor campus averaged 4.4 percent, and staff increases averaged 4.1 percent.
On the whole, staff in lower pay grades received larger percentage increases than higher paid staff. Office staff, typically among the University’s lowest paid employees, averaged 5.5 percent in merit increases while staff in the highest pay ranges, those positions known as “ungraded,” received increases averaging 3.5 percent.
The faculty and staff averages exclude bargained-for employees and Medical Center faculty and staff.
The average merit increase for top administrators was 4.1 percent. Merit increases for deans averaged 4 percent.
For 1996-97, all Ann Arbor campus units received a 1 percent General Fund increase from the University for salary increases. Units were encouraged to supplement the increase by reallocating internal funds.
