Fifteen faculty will be honored at Oct. 7 program
Fifteen faculty members will receive awards at 4 p.m. Oct. 7, recognizing their teaching, service and other achievements. The 4 p.m. program in Rackham Amphitheatre will be followed by a 5 p.m. reception in the Assembly Hall.
Amoco Foundation Awards, which recognize “demonstrated excellence at the undergraduate level” and carry a $1,000 stipend, will go to Anita Norich, associate professor of English language and literature, LS&A; and Phillip E. Savage, associate professor of chemical engineering, College of Engineering.
Distinguished Faculty Achievement Awards will go to Philip H. Bucksbaum, professor of physics, LS&A; Nicholas F. Delbanco, director of the Hopwood Awards Program and professor of English language and literature, LS&A; H. Scott Fogler, professor of chemical engineering, College of Engineering; Steven L. Kunkel, professor of pathology, Medical School; and Abigail J. Stewart, director, Institute for Research on Women and Gender, and professor of psychology and of women’s studies.
These awards, which carry $1,500 stipends, recognize “extraordinary achievement in teaching, research, creative work in the arts, public service and other activities that have brought the University distinction.”
Five faculty will receive Faculty Recognition Awards, which honor recipients for their “contributions to the University through significant achievement in research and other scholarly activities, excellence as a teacher and counselor and/or distinguished participation in University service activities.”
The five are Sally A. Camper, associate professor of human genetics, Medical School; Timothy E. Chupp, associate chair, Graduate Program in Physics, and professor of physics, LS&A; William DeYoung, associate professor of dance, School of Music; Linda Gregerson, associate professor of English language and literature, LS&A, and the A. Bartlett Giamatti Faculty Fellow, Institute for the Humanities; and Jennifer J. Linderman, associate professor of chemical engineering, College of Engineering.
Theodore J. St. Antoine, the James E. and Sarah A. Degan Professor of Law, will receive the Distinguished Faculty Governance Award, which carries a $500 stipend.
The University Press Book Award, which carries a $500 stipend, will be presented to Karen Sara Myers, assistant professor of Greek and Latin, LS&A.
Orin G. Gelderloos, professor of biology and environmental studies, U-M Dearborn, will receive the Regents’ Award for Distinguished Public Service. It carries a $1,000 stipend.
