63.17 tons of paper recycled

Move-In week at the U-M (Aug. 27-Sept. 2) marked the largest amount of paper recycled in one week since the University began its recycling program in 1989. Grounds and Waste Management Services collected a total of 63.17 tons of paper products for recycling, beating the record high to date by more than 12 tons. Coordinator Erica Speigel attributes the high amount to the extra volume of cardboard from students moving into the residence halls and vendors at Michigan Stadium during the first home football game of the season. The previous weekly high was set in November 1992.
