Visiting Writers series starts Sept. 15

Nobel laureate Derek Walcott and award-winning poet A.R. Ammons will present their works during the University’s Visiting Writers Series this month.

Sponsored by the Department of English and Borders Books and Music, the series features fiction and poetry readings by distinguished writers throughout the academic year. Most readings are free and open to the public.

Walcott, a poet/playwright who won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1992, will read his poetry at 4 p.m. Sun. (Sept. 15) at Rackham Auditorium. A resident of Trinidad, he teaches at Boston University and has written several books of poetry and numerous books about plays, including Dream on Monkey Mountain and Remembrance and Pantomime.

Ammons, who teaches at Cornell University, will give a poetry reading at 5 p.m. Sept. 26 at Rackham Amphitheater. He has written more than 20 books, including Brink Road, A Coast of Trees and Garbage.
