Wise receives Columbus Scholar Fellowship
Kendall D. Wise, the J. Reid and Polly Anderson Professor of Manufacturing Technology and professor of electrical engineering and computer science, received a $100,000 fellowship from the Christopher Columbus Fellowship Foundation, an independent fede ral agency established by Congress in 1992.
Wise is the first person to receive the $100,000 Columbus Scholar Fellowship. He was selected by the Foundation’s Board of Trustees from thousands of researchers nominated for Discover Magazine’s 1996 Discover Awards for Technological Inno vation.
Five named AAAS Fellows
Composer/pianist William Bolcom, the Ross Lee Finney Distinguished University Professor of Music; Frederick C. Neidhardt, associate vice president for research; Joseph Vining, the Harry Burns Hutchins Collegiate Professor of Law; Kent V. Flannery, the James B. Griffin Distinguished University Professor of Anthropological Archaeology; and Richard Irving Ford, the Arthur F. Thurnau Professor of Anthropology have been named American Academy of Arts and Sciences Fellows. The Academy was founded by John A dams to “cultivate every art and science which may tend to advance the interest, honor, dignity and happiness” of people everywhere. The Academy includes more than 4,000 Fellows and Foreign Honorary Members.
Cardullo receives Fulbright Scholarship
Robert J. Cardullo, associate professor of theatre, has been awarded a J. William Fulbright Scholarship to teach drama and film courses in the American Studies Program at the University of Jyväskylä in Finland during the 1996–97 academi c year.
