Institute for Research on Women and Gender awards grants to 18
The Institute for Research on Women and Gender has awarded 18 grants to U-M faculty members for scholarly activities on women and gender. Research in the Kelsey Museum of Archaeology, LS&A, the School of Social Work, the College of Engineering, the School of Nursing and 11 academic disciplines will be supported by the grants, which range from $550 to $10,000.
Applications were reviewed for the quality and significance of the scholarly or creative activity proposed; centrality of research on women or gender to the project; inclusion of appropriate attention to issues of race/ethnicity, sexuality, culture, nationality and other differences among women and men; value of the project to the career development of faculty and/or students; and contribution of the project to the study of women and gender at the U-M.
Recipients of the grants are:
Elsa Barkley Brown, assistant professor of history and of Afroamerican and African studies; Susan E. Crowell, lecturer in ceramics; Sandra Klein Danziger, associate professor of social work; Hemalata Dandekar, director of the Center for South and Southeast Asian Studies; Frieda Ekotto, assistant professor of French;
Beth Glover Reed, associate professor of social work and of women’s studies; Susan Juster, assistant professor of history; Carol Karlsen, associate professor of history and of women’s studies; Kimberlee J. Kearfott, professor of nuclear engineering; Donald R. Kinder, professor of political science and of psychology;
Stuart Kirsch, lecturer in anthropology; Earl Lewis, professor of history and of Afroamerican and African studies; Rosario Montoya, graduate student in anthropology; Penny F. Pierce, assistant professor of nursing; Yopie Prins, assistant professor of English; Nancy Reame, professor of nursing; Carolyn Sampselle, associate professor of nursing; and Terry G. Wilfong, assistant curator at the Kelsey Museum of Archaeology.
