Crisler Arena was the site March 29 – 31 of the annual Ann Arbor pow wow, featuring more than 1,000 singers, dancers and artists and drawing a crowd of more than 10,000 over the three days. The traditional spring gathering of Native Americans is rooted in the historical spring celebration and meeting of Native American families after the hard winter to acknowledge events such as births, deaths and accomplishments. Today the pow wow is a chance for dance and drum competitions as well as social and traditional gathering. Pictured here, a young dancer is intent on her role in the celebrations.
