ITD executive director sought

Provost J. Bernard Machen has initiated a search for an executive director for the Information Technology Division (ITD). He has requested that a search advisory committee conduct a national search and present him with an unranked slate of final candidates during spring term.

The executive director position has been created because ITD’s chief operating officer, Sam Plice, plans to re tire in June and the vice provost for information technology, Douglas Van Houweling, has taken on new responsibilities as dean for the Academic Outreach Program. Van Houweling also has been asked to provide leadership for the Media Union. The ITD execut ive director will report to the provost.

During the search process, ITD will continue to report to Van Houweling, and Plice will continue as chief operating officer.

Van Houweling will retain responsibility for the University’s strategy for information and technology and will chair a Universitywide Information and Technology Board that will include the new ITD executive director, the chief information officers from the major units of the University and representatives from the University’s libraries.

Members of the search advisory committee are Gary Olson (chair), Psychology; David Anderson, College of Engineering; Kitty Bridges, ITD; Philip Hanlon, Mathematics; Randy Harris, Finance; Mike McGill, Medical Center; Lester Monts, Provost’s Office; and Laura Patterson, Registrar’s Office.
