Next ‘CLASS’ for academic administrators focuses on legal issues, principles

Legal Issues and Principles Relevant to Higher Education” will be the focus of the second pilot session of CLASS to be held 8:30 a.m. Thurs. (Feb. 8) in the Business School’s Hale Auditorium.

CLASS—Chairs’ Leadership Academy for Support and Success—is an educational support program sponsored by the Office of the Provost-Academic Human Resources for faculty who hold administrative positions as department chairs, associate or assistant deans or program heads.

The upcoming session will be led by General Counsel Elsa Cole and Dan Sharphorn, assistant general counsel. The presentation will be conducted in an interactive format with discussions in part based on hypothetical case studies.

Among the issues that will be addressed are:

Due process rights of faculty and students.

Confidentiality of records.

Free speech.

Faculty hiring and performance evaluations.

Discrimination.

Sexual harassment.

Department chairs, associate deans and other invitees can register at the door or call E. Kay Dawson, director of academic human resources, at 764-9291.
