Galileo space probe findings, experiences will be discussed at Evening at Rackham
University of Michigan scientists involved in the Galileo spacecraft’s exploration of the planet Jupiter will share their experiences—along with new information from the Dec. 7 probe of the planet’s atmosphere—in a free, public lecture titled “Galileo Probes Jupiter: Unlocking the Mysteries of a Giant Planet.” The lecture will begin at 7 p.m. Feb. 7 in Rackham Auditorium.
Presented by Sushil Atreya, professor of atmospheric and space science, and George Carignan, associate dean for research at the College of Engineering, the lecture is designed for a lay audience and will include slides and video. High school and middle school students are especially encouraged to attend.
“Galileo Probes Jupiter” is the second in a monthly series ofpublic presentations on current issues called “Evenings at the Rackham,” organized by the Horace H. Rackham School of Graduate Studies.
Two additional lectures are scheduled for this term. On March 19 in a presentation titled “A Visit to the Gallery,” the Museum of Art will host a pre-publication reading of new poems inspired by works of art in the museum’s permanent collection. On April 9, alumnus and civil rights activist Roger Wilkins will discuss “Welfare Reform and America’s Future.”
All “Evenings at the Rackham” lectures are free and open to the public.
