New names reflect use changes for East, West Engineering

The renaming of the East Engineering Building as East Hall and the West Engineering Building as West Hall was approved by the Regents at their December meeting.

“Two landmarks on this campus have long been the East Engineering and West Engineering buildings, home to the College of Engineering until the College moved to the North Campus,” said Executive Vice President Farris W. Womack.

“Now the West Engineering Building is home to the Department of Physics, the Center for Afroamerican and African Studies, and the School of Information and Library Studies.

“The East Engineering Building is currently being remodeled for occupancy by the departments of Psychology and Mathematics.

“It seems appropriate that the names of the buildings should be modified to eliminate the reference to ‘Engineering.'”
