DPS launches Thanksgiving food drive

Editor’s Note: If your unit is planning a holiday collection drive of some sort (food, clothing, etc.) let us know and we’ll publish the information in the Dec. 5 issue of the Record. Please be sure to include the name and phone number of a contact person in case we have questions.

Department of Public Safety community-oriented policing officers (COP) at the University began a food drive Nov. 8 to help families in need during the Thanksgiving holiday.

“There are many people in this community who are struggling to get by,” said Officer Dave Dupuis. “As the holidays approach, we hope to fill the cupboards of people in need and to show our commitment to the Ann Arbor community.”

Canned and boxed food is being collected in the COP offices at 525 Church St.; Mason Hall, Room G417; and North Campus Commons between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. Monday-Friday until Nov. 20. Donations also will be accepted at the main Department of Public Safety office at 1239 Kipke Drive between 7:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. The food collected will be donated to Huron Harvest Food and Food Gatherers during Thanksgiving week.

Items needed include canned soups, beef stew, spaghetti, breakfast cereals, oatmeal, baby food/formula, canned meats, chili, tuna, rice, beans, pasta, and powdered milk and cheese.
