U a partner in major technology exposition, conference next week
The U-M is one of seven area organizations sponsoring SMRTEC—Southeast Michigan Research and Technology Exposition and Conference Nov. 20-21 at the EMU Corporate Education Center in Ypsilanti.
Organizers describe the program as a “two-day, high-energy opportunity to see, hear and touch this area’s world-class technological resources.”
Leaders of area industry, research and education enterprises will discuss how they have formed successful partnerships, and a variety of multidisciplinary case studies will illustrate practical problem-solving and help participants determine partnerships that might be beneficial to them.
U-M presenters include:
President James J. Duderstadt, who will discuss “Rapid Changes in Business Technology: How Can Higher Education Help?” with Gunder Myran, president of Washtenaw Community College;
Homer A. Neal, vice president for research, who will be one of several speakers on “The Industrial/Educational Complex” at the opening session;
Douglas E. Van Houweling, vice provost for information technology, speaking on “Emerging Information Technology: Visions of the Future;”
David Cole, director of the Office for the Study of Automotive Transportation, discussing “No Longer A Model-A, But a Model for Change” and
David Brophy, director of the Office for the Study of Private Equity Finance at the School of Business Administration, speaking on “National and Regional Trends in Venture Capital.”
