The banks of telephones have been ordered. Volunteers have signed up for shifts taking pledge calls from listeners. The listener-supported public radio stations of the University of Michigan are preparing for the annual fall fund drive.

Michigan Radio’s autumn on-air fundraising campaign, scheduled to begin at 6 a.m. Thursday (Nov. 2), will run to 10 p.m. daily through Nov. 11. Although a full ten days have been set aside for the drive, Michigan Radio has vowed to stop the campaign as soon as the financial goal of $200,000 in pledges has been reached.

This fall, Michigan radio has made a number of programming changes. The station’s presentation of two weekday National Public Radio newsmagazines has been extended, with Morning Edition now broadcast 6-9 a.m. and All Things Considered 4-6:30 p.m. In addition, the station has added a broadcast of the BBC Newshour live from London at 3 p.m. daily.

Michigan Radio members receive priority in ordering tickets to the station’s Fourth Annual New Year’s Eve Jazz Revisited concert slated for 8 p.m. at the Power Center for the Performing Arts. Hazen Schumacher, Jazz Revisited host, will be master of ceremonies for the concert that features James Dapogny’s Chicago Jazz Band; legendary saxophonist, clarinetist and vocalist Franz Jackson; and vocalist Carol Leigh. The celebration continues at the Gandy Dancer at 10:30 p.m.

As part of the on-air campaign, 8-10 p.m. Nov. 8, Michigan Radio will present the Great CD Giveaway, offering compact discs as additional premiums with member pledges of $60 or more.

Michigan Radio can be heard in Ann Arbor on WUOM, 91.7 FM; in Grand Rapids on WVGR, 104.1 FM; and in Flint on WFUM, 91.1 FM.
