  Man arrested in sexual assault
A man who is not affiliated with the University has been arrested and charged with third degree criminal sexual conduct following an assault on a woman resident of Bursley Hall on Oct. 4. The incident was reported to DPS on Oct. 5, after the victim sought counseling.

The charge is a two-count felony and carries a mandatory prison sentence.

The suspect was arrested Oct. 6 and released after posting bond Oct. 7. He was formally arraigned Oct. 10 and released on bond with conditions. He faces a preliminary examination in 15th District Court on Oct. 18.

 Arson suspect’s hearing set for Oct. 25
An Oakland County man faces a preliminary hearing in 15th District Court Oct. 25 on two felony counts, each of which carries penalties of up to 20 years in prison.

The man, who is not affiliated with the University, was arrested in connection with a fire at Vera Baits II Ziwet House Sept. 22 that was determined to be arson. It resulted in about $20,000 in damages to the room and its contents.

 Man arrested in North Campus thefts
A man affiliated with the University was arrested and arraigned in 15th District Court Sept. 8 on charges stemming from a burglary in the Institute for Science and Technology (IST) Building on North Campus.

The incident prompting the arrest took place some time between July 8 and July 13 and was reported Aug. 7.

Department of Public Safety (DPS) Captain James Smiley says there had been a number of larcenies on North Campus during the summer, particularly in the IST building. DPS officers apprehended the male suspect after surveillance was set up.

The suspect has been charged with larceny from a building, which is a five-year felony. He was bound over to Circuit Court at his Sept. 20 preliminary exam.

 Two charged in Oxford theft
Two men have been charged with home invasion, second offense, which is a 15-year felony, in connection with the burglary of a room in Oxford Housing on Sept. 30. The stolen items, all of which were recovered, included a laptop computer, telephone, football and concert tickets and credit cards.

The two men, both affiliated with the University, were arrested and arraigned in 15th District Court on Oct. 4, pleading not guilty. A preliminary hearing is set for Oct. 18.

 Armed robber apprehended
A young man not affiliated with the University was arrested by Ann Arbor Police Oct. 3 following an armed robbery in the Michigan Union around 7:30 p.m. that evening. The incident took place in the ground level lobby of the Union. The suspect was carrying a machete. He currently is lodged at a juvenile facility.

 Assault investigation continues
DPS officers are continuing their investigation into a felonious assault that took place in the Michigan Union Oct. 2. Two males were involved in a shoving match, and a third person assaulted one of the men with a pool cue. The victim, who is affiliated with the University, required 12 stitches to close a head wound. Smiley says DPS is close to an arrest of the alleged assailants, who are not affiliated with the University.
