The University Record, October 2, 1995 Novelists Douglas Unger, Kazuo Ishiguro and T. Coraghessan Boyle and poet Elizabeth Alexander will present their works in the October Visiting Writers Series at the U-M.
Sponsored by the Department of English and Borders Books and Music, the series features fiction and poetry readings by distinguished writers throughout the academic year. Most readings are free to the public.
October readings, held at the Rackham Building Amphitheater unless noted otherwise, include:
Oct. 5 (5 p.m.): Douglas Unger, an English professor at the University of Nevada-Las Vegas, is author of Voices From Silence, El Yanqui, Leaving the Land and The Turkey War.
Oct. 7 (7:30 p.m.): Novelist Kazuo Ishiguro has written Remains of the Day and The Unconsoled.
Oct. 16 (4 p.m.): Elizabeth Alexander’s work, “Venus Hottentot,” was featured in the Callaloo Poetry Series.
Oct. 26 (7:30 p.m.): T. Coraghessan Boyle, a creative writing professor at the University of Southern California, has written Without a Hero, The Road to Wellville, East is East, World’s End and Budding Prospects. His talk will be held at the Michigan Union’s Pendleton Room.
