Dearborn’s Proctor granted emeritus status
U-M-Dearborn’s Donald J. Proctor was named professor emeritus of history by the Regents at their June meeting.
Proctor, who joined the Dearborn campus in 1965, served with distinction as a teacher, administrator and scholar, according to the Regents. Prior to serving as chair of the Department of Social Sciences in 1972-77, he taught the full range of the undergraduate American history curriculum. He also helped develop a core curriculum before the College of Arts, Sciences, and Letters (CASL) expanded from a senior college to a four-year undergraduate institution in 1971.
“As a scholar,” the Regents noted, “Prof. Proctor’s published work in such diverse scholarly publications as the Journal of American History and the Journal of Baseball Research, in addition to articles in popular publications, reflect his broad interests and involvement in American history.”
Proctor was acting dean of CASL in 1972-73 and served a second stint as chair of the Department of Social Sciences in 1991-94.
