Exercise caution when walking by yourself

Men and women walking alone at night on campus need to be aware of their surroundings and cautious, warns Department of Public Safety (DPS) Sgt. Kevin McNulty, who is investigating an armed robbery and assault that occurred around 3:30 a.m. Oct. 5 near the Engineering Arch.

The victim, a physical science research associate, was approached by two suspects, one of whom had a gun. Warner was stabbed eight times with a knife and hit in the head with the gun, thought to be a small caliber, semi-automatic. The suspects fled with Warner’s wallet containing $13 in cash and credit cards. The wallet has not yet been recovered.

Warner was treated at University Hospital and released two days later.

DPS officers believe witnesses may have seen the attack or the attackers as they fled and ask that persons with information call 761-1131.

DPS has issued the following description of one of the suspects: a 30-year old Black male with medium length hair, possibly brushed back or standing up, and one or two weeks’ growth of beard with a lighter mustache.
