Martha Krebs, director of energy research for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), will present a public lecture and participate in a panel discussion titled, “National Science and Technology Policy: Beyond Advocacy,” 4-5:30 p.m. Sept. 13 in Rackham Amphitheater. Sponsored by the Office of the Vice President for Research, the lecture is free and open to the general public and the U-M community.
Krebs manages the DOE Office of Energy Research (OER), one of the largest sponsors of basic research in the federal government. OER’s annual budget of approximately $3 billion funds DOE programs in basic energy sciences, high energy and nuclear physics, biological and environmental research, university and science education, fusion energy and scientific computing.
She also serves as the DOE science and technology adviser.
Prior to joining DOE in November 1993, Krebs was associate laboratory director for planning and development at the Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory. She holds an A.B. and Ph.D. in physics from the Catholic University of America. A member of Sigma Xi and Phi Beta Kappa, she was also a National Science Foundation Fellow.
