McClanahan named to head development at Wayne State

Susan McClanahan, LS&A assistant dean for development and external relations, has been appointed vice president for development at Wayne State University (WSU), effective Sept. 16.

She will be the chief administrator of WSU’s Development Office. In fiscal year 1991–92, WSU’s development team helped generate more than 42,000 contributions totaling $16 million.

“I’m very pleased that Ms. McClanahan has agreed to join Wayne State,” said President David Adamany.

A major challenge Wayne State faces is how to build upon its established and well-known strengths and traditions in an era of decidedly finite resources,” he noted. “Our development activities take on an additional significance as we seek to address a host of institutional needs within available means. Her leadership in this arena is most welcome.”

McClanahan has been at the U-M for 13 years, serving as manager of LS&A’s annual fund, as a senior development officer and as coordinator of affirmative action programs.
