Students entering the University this fall will quickly become familiar with campus before classes begin, thanks to Welcome to Michigan ’93, an orientation week featuring informational events, social activities and recreational sports.

Welcome to Michigan ’93, a new campuswide program beginning Sept. 2—the day residence halls are scheduled to open—will run until Sept. 9, the first day of fall classes.

“With new students likely to move in a week early, a unique opportunity has been created for members of the University community to meet students prior to the start of classes,” says Deb Moriarty, program coordinator, Office of Orientation.

“The goals of the program are to provide a warm welcome to our new students, to help them become familiar with the campus as a learning community, and to help them make a meaningful, smooth and enjoyable transition to college life.”

Moriarty currently is developing a campuswide calendar of events to be distributed to all new students and to be available for returning students at several locations on campus this fall.

“The success of this program will rest on the efforts put forth by the members of the University community,” she says. “We are seeking information on events that are being planned and hope to stimulate new ideas for departmentally-sponsored programs that will be offered throughout the week.”

To have an event or program included in the calendar, contact Moriarty by MTS or phone, 764-6290 or 764-0646, by June 18.

Welcome to Michigan ’93 is coordinated by the offices of the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs and Vice President for Student Affairs.
