The University’s student newspaper and yearbook have been named among the top college student publications in the country by the Columbia Scholastic Press Association (CSPA).
The Michigan Daily is one of six college student newspapers to receive the Gold Crown Award, CSPA’s top honor. The Michiganensian, the student yearbook, has won the Silver Crown Award, which places it also among the top six in its category.
Ten Daily issues published in the winter term 1992 were entered in the competition. The Michiganensian submitted its 1991–92 edition.
In addition, the Daily garnered seven Gold Circle Awards, given to individual staff members. Winners include:
Mona J. Qureshi, first place, in-depth news/feature, “Institutional racism”;
Adam S. Miller, second place, sports column, “Millie was more than just Bo’s wife”;
Gregory D. Stump, third place and two Certificates of Merit, editorial cartoons;
Rich Choi, U-M graduate, Certificate of Merit, black-and-white art/illustration;
Henry L. Goldblatt and David M. Rhein-gold, Certificate of Merit, page one design;
Gil H. Renberg and David J. Shepardson, Certificate of Merit, opinion page design (small format); and Daily staff, Certificate of Merit, overall design.
