Flint names affirmative action chief

The appointment of Aaron B. Sanders as affirmative action coordinator at U-M-Flint has been announced by Chancellor Clinton B. Jones.

He will be responsible for ensuring compliance with affirmative action policies and procedures in hiring and employee relations, handling complaints, and providing training for faculty and staff on affirmative action issues.

Sanders comes to the Flint campus from the Black Studies Department at the University of Nebraska where he taught Black history and designed and taught a course on employment and housing discrimination law. He also taught at Metropolitan Community College in Omaha.

His experience in dealing directly with the issues of equal employment opportunity (EEO) and affirmative action results from appointments to a variety of local and state government posts.

Sanders was human relations director for the city of Council Bluffs, Iowa, in 1986–90. In 1983–86 he was civil rights/EEO officer for the Nebraska Department of Social Services, and he was manager of affirmative action at the University of Nebraska-Omaha in 1979–83.
