AD career marked by numerous accomplishments

During his tenure with the intercollegiate athletics program, Weidenbach expanded and strengthened its academic support program for student athletes. His work with athletic facilities included major renovations and upgrading of Michigan Stadium; renovating the women’s softball field, Yost Ice Arena, the Athletic Administration Building and the women’s gymnastics’ practice facility; and restoration of the Michigan Golf Course. The Cliff Keen Arena, the Marie Hartwig Building and Schembechler Hall were dedicated.

In 1992, Michigan’s football team won its third Big Ten championship during Weidenbach’s tenure, going on to win the 1993 Rose Bowl. The men’s swimming team won its seventh consecutive Big Ten championship and the women’s swimming team won its sixth straight conference title. The women’s softball, gymnastics and cross country teams also won Big Ten titles. The hockey team won the Central Collegiate Hockey Association championship and went on to play in its first NCAA Final Four since 1977. The men’s basketball team reached the Final Four, playing in its second national championship game in four years.
