U-M’s 1992 United Way campaign ends successfully

By Rebecca A. Doyle

The University community has pulled together and completed a successful campaign, says John D. Forsyth, general chair of the University United Way campaign.

“Because of the economic conditions, volunteers worked harder and were more dedicated than ever before,” he says. “We thank everybody in the University community who, under such tough times, has met the challenge.”

The campaign, which ended officially last week, has reached the $900,000 goal and a few donations are still coming in.

Forsyth says that throughout the campaign, there were many suggestions for improvement, and in December, volunteers will evaluate the campaign to determine how it could be run more effectively.

He has also received mail, he says, about things that confused contributors, and those will also be considered.

“We are taking those things to heart,” he says.

Contributions to United Way benefit more than 100 local agencies, providing such essentials as food, clothing, emergency shelter, counseling for substance abuse, help for persons with disabilities, and medical services.
