Giving Blueday, the University of Michigan’s 24-hour day of giving, will take place March 16. Throughout the day, the U-M community will have the opportunity to give to the programs and causes they care most about at the university.
Donors can visit the Giving Blueday website to find causes and make donations, view real-time progress, sign up to become a Champion, and learn how to spread the word.

This year, the university hopes to increase donor participation on Giving Blueday, inspiring as many new people as possible to give to U-M programs and initiatives that serve the public good. Donors can give to the highest priorities of the Ann Arbor, Dearborn or Flint campuses, supporting students, medicine, the arts, sustainability, DEI initiatives and more.
“On Giving Blueday, the global Michigan community can make an incredible impact by uniting in support of the programs and causes we care about most,” said Tom Baird, vice president for development. “Each year, donors continue to impress me with their generosity and passion for U-M.”
Each Giving Blueday, donors make gifts in support of students, organizations and programs across all three U-M campuses and Michigan Medicine. During Giving Blueday 2021, more than 10,000 donors gave more than $4.6 million, including support for more than 100 student organizations such as the Black Student Union, the Graham Student Sustainability Coalition, and Women’s Club Rugby.
For the first time this year, anyone can sign up to become a Champion for Giving Blueday, by clicking “Become a Champion” on the Giving Blueday website. Every Champion who receives donations from 10 or more donors through their personal giving link will receive an exclusive U-M T-shirt.
Challenges and matching funds encourage participation. People who share the Giving Blueday video, using the hashtag #GivingBlueday, between now and March 16 will be entered into a drawing, with one person randomly selected to receive $1,000 to give toward the U-M fund of their choice.
During Giving Blueday, donors can make their gifts go further with more than $200,000 in daylong and hourly challenges and matches that are available for students, first-time donors, faculty and staff, and more.
Since it began in 2014, Giving Blueday has seen student participation grow each year. This year, hundreds of student organizations — from UM-Flint Baseball and the Wolverine Support Network to the Michigan Synthetic Biology Team — will raise funds for their causes.
