UM-Dearborn scheduled a series of small, outdoor, in-person events for graduates in its 2020 and 2021 classes. Ceremonies for 2020 graduates took place April 29-30, while celebrations for 2021 graduates were scheduled for May 1-4.

The plan called for college deans to host their college’s ceremonies, with Chancellor Domenico Grasso and Provost Sue Alcock to alternate speaking at the ceremonies. Regent Sarah Hubbard, commencement speaker poet Nikki Giovanni and student speaker Lena Hakim delivered remarks via video.

While UM-Flint will not have a live virtual ceremony, it has developed a program with student input that features a variety of events, videos and resources that graduates and their families can access whenever they wish.

The University Pavilion Space was made available for students who would like to take photos, the university partnered with the Flint Public Art Project to bring an iconic Flint mural to the campus, and an official commencement video features the stories of some of the graduates of the classes of 2020 and 2021, along with remarks by Chancellor Deba Dutta, Provost Sonja Feist-Price, and Regent Jordan Acker.
