The University of Michigan will suspend operation of its emergency call center related to the university’s response to COVID-19 as the community moves into sustained operations during the pandemic.

The suspension will take effect March 25 at 5 p.m.

While calls have diminished, information and updates will continue to be shared on the university’s coronavirus website.

Michigan Medicine’s COVID-19 hotline will remain available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, at 734-763-6336 for patients and employees of Michigan Medicine.

In addition, the state of Michigan has a COVID-19 Hotline available 8 a.m.–5 p.m. seven days a week at 888-535-61367.

The U-M Emergency Call Center is designed to serve the university community by providing a single point of contact to clearly communicate condition, direction, instruction and information during emergency situations in the immediate term. The call center is operated by Information Technology Services and the Shared Services Center in partnership with Public Affairs.

U-M activated the UMECC on March 13 to assist the U-M community with COVID-19 questions specifically related to U-M’s institutional response to the pandemic. It was open Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.–5 p.m.

Since that time, the call center received 241 calls, but the number of calls has fallen off significantly this week.
