Faculty invited to apply for 2020 Michigan Road Scholars Tour

Topics:

U-M instructional, research and clinical track faculty are invited to apply to be part of the 2020 Michigan Road Scholars Tour, scheduled for May 4-8.

The annual educational tour will cultivate an awareness among faculty of the state’s distinctive geographic, economic, cultural and political attributes, and encourage public service and research to address the state’s problems.

Designed to increase mutual knowledge and understanding between the university and the people and communities of the state, the five-day tour will introduce participants to the places the majority of U-M students call home. In addition, the experience is expected to develop beneficial ties and promote interdisciplinary discussion among the touring faculty.

The 2020 tour also will include stops that are connected to LSA’s winter semester theme of the Great Lakes. Tour stops are designed to promote conversations with business owners, nonprofit leaders, educators, legislators and community members as the tour travels from Ann Arbor to the Upper Peninsula and back.

Applications will be accepted until Dec. 2. A faculty advisory committee will select 30 faculty members to participate in the tour.

All meals, accommodations and transportation will be provided. Prior to departure, participants will receive materials with pertinent background on state issues, locations to be visited, and community people with whom they will meet.
