The QS World University Rankings, launched in 2004, are based on six factors: academic reputation, employer reputation, faculty-student ratio, citations per faculty, proportion of international faculty and proportion of international students.
The ranking has been expanded this year to feature more than 950 universities — 60 more than last year — in 85 countries.
U-M is one of two U.S. public universities making the top 30, a list that also included 12 private U.S. universities. The other public U.S. university in the top 30 is the University of California, Berkeley at No. 27.
