The city of Ann Arbor has announced the details and dates of its deer-management program that will include some University of Michigan property.
The lethal program of deer management utilizing sharpshooters will take place Jan. 8-31 in several city parks and natural areas. Lethal and non-lethal segments of the program will be carried out by a specialized contractor, White Buffalo.
Sharpshooters will operate on U-M property during this period but for a more limited date within the Nichols Arboretum.
U-M properties involved that will be closed each day, from 3 p.m. to midnight, include:
• Acreage south of Glazier Way and east of Fuller Road.
• Wooded acreage north and south of Hubbard and east of Huron Parkway.
• Within the Nichols Arboretum, lethal cull activities will take place only on Jan. 11, 16, 19 and 23.
Signage will be posted at the designated parks and nature area entrances and other access points to notify visitors in advance of closures. The university’s Division of Public Safety and Security will ensure the university community is properly notified and that signage is posted prominently in the designated cull areas.
