University Research Corridor boosts Motor City resurgence
The state of Michigan’s University Research Corridor added $958 million in economic activity to the city of Detroit in 2015, along with hundreds of programs that improve lives and advance neighborhoods, a new report states. “Engaging Detroit: URC’s Contributions to Resurgence in the Motor City,” prepared by Lansing-based Public Sector Consultants, also found that the three universities that make up the URC — the University of Michigan, Michigan State University and Wayne State University — contributed more than 11,600 jobs.
UMHS named Practice Greenhealth’s Partner for Change
The U-M Health System recently received the 2016 Greenhealth Partner for Change Award from Practice Greenhealth. The award recognizes health care facilities that continuously improve and expand upon their mercury elimination, waste reduction, and recycling and source reduction programs. At a minimum, facilities applying for this award must be recycling 15 percent of their total waste, among other criteria.
University receives Sustainability Award in Facilities Management
U-M has been recognized for its efforts to advance sustainability excellence on campus by the APPA: Leadership in Educational Facilities. To receive the Sustainability Award in Facilities Management, U-M earned points in educational curriculum and research; leadership and administration; maintenance and operations; energy and utilities; planning and construction; sustainability indicators; and sustainability innovations.
East Washington Street closed to through traffic for summer festival
East Washington Street between South Thayer Street and Fletcher Street is closed to through traffic through July 8 for the 2016 Ann Arbor Summer Festival. Emergency and service access will be maintained at all times. More information about the festival is at annarborsummerfestival.org.
UMHS announces wireless access policy change
Beginning in August, all wireless access points that are not installed, configured and maintained by Medical Center Information Technology are to be removed from operation in all buildings and real estate owned or rented by the U-M Health System. Those using a non-UMHS wireless access point due to challenges with wireless access in their location should contact the Service Desk for an assessment and solution.
