MSU receives $4.4M grant for food security in Mali

Michigan State University has been awarded a $4.4 million grant from the U.S. Agency for International Development in Mali. The funds will support the Feed the Future Innovation Lab for Food Security Policy in its efforts to reduce poverty and hunger, and improve nutrition. The Food Security Policy Innovation Lab at MSU was launched three years ago and leads the Mali Food Security Policy Research Program, which promotes inclusive agricultural productivity growth, enhanced livelihood resilience and improved nutrition through policy.

Oakland to implement new campus address system

Oakland University will be implementing a change it its campus addressing system. Going forward, the university will begin to use unique street addresses for each building and parking lot on campus, rather than the single campuswide address. The reason for the change is to ensure security and safety, making it easier for emergency response services to report to exact locations.

UT School of Business to offer new marketing master’s program

The McCombs School of Business at the University of Texas at Austin is launching a new Master of Science in Marketing program. It aims to support students seeking careers in marketing analysis, digital marketing, product planning, pricing and other related industries. The program is a 10-month, 36-credit-hour degree designed for students with nonbusiness backgrounds. The program will begin classes during the summer of 2016.

Northwestern establishes center for water research

Northwestern University has established the new interdisciplinary Northwestern Center for Water Research. The center aims to catalyze research and education on complex water issues and focus on solutions to ensure water security and sustainability both regionally and globally. The center will partner with the Institute for Sustainability and Energy at Northwestern, Northwestern-Argonne Institute of Science and Engineering and Northwestern Pritzker School of Law’s Environmental Advocacy Center. It will also contribute to the Chicago initiative “Current,” which aims to make the region a hub for economic and technological innovation.

OSU to offer free tuition to early childhood teachers

The Ohio State University has introduced a new Teacher Preparation Pipeline Scholarship program. The scholarship will allow 100 early childhood educators in Columbus to obtain a bachelor’s degree for free. The five-year program is a partnership with the city of Columbus, Columbus State Community College and Action for Children.
