UMMA called top public university art museum

The U-M Museum of Art has been recognized as the top public university art museum in the country by Best College Reviews. UMMA is No. 3 on the overall list, behind only the museums of Harvard University and the Rhode Island School of Design, both private universities. Criteria included a permanent collection spanning multiple historical and cultural periods, the size of the collection, unique opportunities for university students and more. Gifts of Art seeks exhibit proposals for 2016-17

The U-M Health System’s Gifts of Art program is accepting proposals for its 2016-17 exhibit year. Nine galleries throughout UMHS display more than 35 exhibits a year in spaces viewed by approximately 10,000 people a day. The galleries are some of the most widely visited indoor, non-museum exhibit spaces in the state. The submission deadline is May 1. UM-Dearborn Lecturer Professional Development Grants available

Applications for an additional round of funding for Lecturer Professional Development Grants at the UM-Dearborn must be received in the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs by 5 p.m. April 1. Completed applications, including department chair or dean signature, can be submitted by emailing a PDF to [email protected] (or submitting the paper version to 2066 Institute for Advanced Vehicle Systems) by the deadline. Lecturer Professional Development Grants of up to $900 are awarded in support of professional development activities of UM-Dearborn lecturers covered by LEO contract. Sign up for Metabolic Fitness Program

Metabolic syndrome is a group of risk factors that increase the risk for coronary artery disease, stroke, and type 2 diabetes. The two most important risk factors for metabolic syndrome are extra weight around the middle of the body and insulin resistance. The goal of treatment is to reduce the risk of diseases with nutrition and exercise. The Metabolic Fitness Program sessions combine educational discussions and clinically supervised exercise. Referrals and individual clinic screening appointments are required. Weekly sessions meet 5:30-7 p.m. or 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesdays in Cardiovascular Medicine at Domino’s Farms.

Applications sought for proposals addressing melanoma research

The Cutaneous Oncology Program is supporting two research proposals aimed at advancing basic, translational or clinical research on melanoma. Supported projects likely will be competitive for major National Institutes of Health support, but all applicants with compelling projects are encouraged to apply. Eligible applicants include faculty in the instructional or clinical tracks, or the research track, at assistant research professor or higher. Proposals will be assessed by the U-M Comprehensive Cancer Center Cancer Research Committee. Projects are one year, with a $50,000 budget. Deadline for applications is May 5.
