Center for Entrepreneurship, Mcity spur driverless innovation

The Center for Entrepreneurship in partnership with the U-M Mobility Transformation Center is launching the pilot of TechLab at Mcity, a new opportunity for collaboration among university research, advanced transportation startups and student innovators. It replicates many of the attributes of startup incubators with a heavy emphasis on student intern learning experiences. TechLab’s pilot program launches with Zendrive, which taps mobile sensors to measure driver safety through actions including acceleration, braking, swerving and phone use.

Regents meeting set for March 17

The Board of Regents will have its monthly meeting at 3 p.m. March 17 at the UM-Dearborn Fairlane Center South, Michigan Rooms East and West. To offer public comment at the meeting, sign up in advance at regents.umich.edu/meetings/publform.html. Public comments on agenda items will be taken prior to their consideration. Comments on nonagenda items will follow the regular business agenda. Proposals sought for research on sport, fitness and disability

The Joan Schafer Research Faculty Award in Sport, Fitness and Disability supports projects investigating how living with a physical challenge influences access to and participation in sport and physical activity. The grant supports theoretical and intervention research. The Institute for Research on Women and Gender and the Sport, Health & Activity Research and Policy Center has issued the call for proposals, with a submission deadline of April 29. Up to two awards of $5,000 each may be funded. Support may be requested for research assistance, research-related travel, research materials, collaborative projects, pilot studies or initial research efforts. UM-Dearborn to offer certificate program in Middle East Studies

The Middle East Studies Certificate offered through the UM-Dearborn College of Arts, Sciences and Letters is designed to give students a broad perspective on Middle Eastern history and culture. The 12-credit hour program will be open to undergraduate and post-baccalaureate students and takes advantage of existing CASL courses. Courses within the program focus heavily on Middle Eastern history, but also will allow students to examine the region’s political, philosophical, economic, linguistic and cultural influences.
