Dr. Jeanne C. Sinkford will deliver the 26th Annual Health Sciences MLK Day Lecture, “#WhoWillBeNext: Interprofessional Leaders Promoting Health Equity.”
The talk, presented by the Joint Health Schools MLK Symposium Committee, will take place at noon Jan. 18 in Dow Auditorium/Towsley Center, University Hospital Second Floor, 1500 E. Medical Center Drive.
Sinkford is senior scholar-in-residence, Office of the President and CEO of the American Dental Education Association. She also is professor and dean emeritus of the Howard University College of Dentistry. She is a nationally and internationally renowned dental educator, administrator, researcher and clinician.
Sinkford’s distinguished career in dental education includes serving as the first woman dean of an American dental school. She is a member of the Institute of Medicine, National Academy of Scholars and a life member of the National Dental Association. Sinkford has more than 100 articles published in refereed journals and has co-authored two seminal reports related to women’s health.
From 1992 to 2011, Sinkford was responsible for diversity programming and initiatives at the American Dental Education Association. Under her leadership, ADEA created numerous opportunities for the advancement of women and underrepresented minorities.
In 2015, Sinkford was honored with an American Dental Association Distinguished Service Award and the ADEAGies Foundation’s William J. Gies Award for Vision, Innovation and Achievement for Outstanding Vision by a Dental Educator.
In her talk, Sinkford will offer insight on issues of health equity, access to care, and disparities that exist within the health care system.
