U-M Survival Flight team wins international title

The University of Michigan Survival Flight team has earned the Association of Air Medical Services 2015 SIM Cup for the second year in a row, at the Air Medical Transport Conference in Long Beach, California. The competition invites some of the top air medical services on the continent to participate in realistic emergency situations that test the skills and knowledge of each flight crew.

Coach Beilein’s contract extended through 2020-21

Interim Donald R. Shepherd Director of Athletics Jim Hackett on Nov. 4 announced a contract extension that will keep U-M men’s basketball head coach John Beilein in Ann Arbor through the 2020-21 season. Entering his 38th year as a collegiate head coach, he has compiled a career record of 717-428, placing him in the top 10 in victories among active Division I head coaches. Entering his ninth season in Ann Arbor, Beilein’s 166 wins place him fourth on Michigan’s all-time list.

Regents meeting planned for Nov. 19

The Board of Regents will have its monthly meeting at 4 p.m. Nov. 19 in the Anderson Room of the Michigan Union. To offer public comment at the meeting, sign up in advance at regents.umich.edu/meetings/publform.html. Public comments on agenda items will be taken prior to their consideration. Comments on nonagenda items will follow the regular business agenda. The University Record seeks staff candidates for Spotlight series

The University Record seeks nominations of staff members to profile in its Spotlight series. The features focus on non-managers who have interesting jobs. Use Nov. 19 to quit for a day

The American Cancer Society recognizes every third Thursday of November as the Great American Smokeout. Those who smoke or use tobacco should consider using Nov. 19 to make a plan to quit. The MHealthy Tobacco Consultation Service has developed a virtual quit kit full of tools and resources to help. The service also provides free individual counseling giving you the support and skills needed to quit, and stay tobacco free.

U-M invests $1M in solving transportation challenges

The university will award more than $1 million in grant funding to technologies that demonstrate high potential for solving transportation’s toughest challenges. The Michigan Translational Research and Commercialization Transportation program, in partnership with the Michigan Economic Development Corp., offers an avenue for U-M researchers and innovators to discover commercial opportunities to advance their projects out of the lab and into the market. The Institute for Research on Women and Gender provides funding to U-M faculty members and graduate students pursuing research, scholarship, or other creative activities that focus on women and gender.
