Michigan Information Technology Symposium proposals sought
Applications for both poster and formal presentations are now being accepted for the Michigan IT Symposium. It is a two-day event highlighting the expertise, innovation and personality of the U-M IT community. Staff and faculty are encouraged to submit proposals highlighting how they overcame challenges in a creative ways through non-traditional uses of technology, cross-unit partnerships, or soft skills. Regents meeting set for Sept. 17
The Board of Regents will have its monthly meeting at 4 p.m. Sept. 17 in the Anderson Room, Michigan Union. To offer public comment at the meeting, sign up in advance at regents.umich.edu/meetings/publform.html. Public comments on agenda items will be taken prior to their consideration. Comments on nonagenda items will follow the regular business agenda. Nominations sought for Distinguished Diversity Leaders Award
Nominations are now being accepted for the annual Distinguished Diversity Leaders Award. Co-sponsored by the Office of the Provost and University Human Resources, it recognizes individual staff members and teams that have demonstrated extraordinary achievement in supporting diversity at the university. It provides a monetary prize; $1,000 for individuals, $2,500 for teams; to be used toward professional development activities. Staff members on all campuses and in the U-M Health System are eligible. Fry named UM-Flint interim SHPS dean, pending Regents approval
Donna Fry, professor of physical therapy, has been appointed interim dean of the University of Michigan-Flint School of Health Professions and Studies, pending approval of the Board of Regents. The appointment was effective Sept. 1. Fry has served as associate dean of SHPS since 2012. “Her service to the university encompasses a wide array of governance, curricular, and strategic committees at the department, school and university levels,” said UM-Flint Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Douglas Knerr.
UM-Flint, Crim Fitness partner to expand programming
The University of Michigan-Flint and the Crim Fitness Foundation have formed a strategic partnership, which brings transformative thinking toward a new era of urban revitalization for Flint and Genesee County. The partnership leverages the strengths of UM-Flint and Crim in providing research, evaluation and facilities that will support and expand current Health and Wellness District programming, and innovate new programming. Programs will be made available to the Flint community on the UM-Flint campus and throughout the community through the Community Education Initiative.
