OU faculty couple donates to respective schools

Professors Bob and Jackie Wiggins have each announced a $25,000 planned gifts to Oakland University. The gifts will establish endowments at their respective schools. Bob Wiggins is a professor in the School of Education and Human  Services and chair of the Department of Teacher Development and Educational Studies. His endowment will support graduate students and teacher education.  Jackie Wiggins is a professor of music education and chair of the Department of Music, Theater and Dance. Her endowment will continue to support these programs.

LSSU alumni create Golden Graduate Society Scholarship

Lake Superior State University alumni have created the Golden Graduate Society Scholarship, which will provide financial assistance to students majoring full-time in any course of study.  Once the fund reaches $25,000, an award will be given each fall to any student registered full-time at LSSU who has accumulated at least 26 credits and a GPA of at least 3.0, with preference given to students majoring in engineering or education. Candidates must submit a 250-word essay outlining educational and career plans. The Golden Graduate Society is comprised of alumni who have graduated 50 or more years ago.

Oakland University introduces new LGBTQ studies minor

Oakland University recently introduced a new minor available to undergraduate students in LGBTQ Studies. The minor is coordinated by the Women and Gender Studies program, and will combine historical, social science, interpersonal and institutional investigations of sexualities, sexual identities and gender identities in U.S. and global contexts. The minor will require a minimum of 20 credits, and will give students an overview of LGBTQ studies, theoretical frameworks arising from queer studies, and hands-on experience through community internships.

OSU receives $10M bequest to establish brain health center

The Ohio State University recently received a $10 million gift from Stan and Jodi Ross, who have been longtime supporters of The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. The gift will establish the Stanley D. and Joan H. Ross Center for Brain Health and Performance, providing support for the center’s leadership, research and education, as well as for the delivery of clinical services and dedicated space for the center.

Harvard receives $400M gift, largest in university’s history

Harvard University recently announced that John A. Paulson has donated a $400 million endowment, the largest gift in the university’ s history. The gift will support the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, which will be renamed the Harvard John A. Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences. SEAS offers three undergraduate concentrations (biomedical engineering, mechanical engineering, and electrical engineering) and a master’s program in computational science and engineering. Paulson is a graduate of Harvard Business School and is founder of Paulson and Co.
