This week in history (95 years ago)
Herbert Hoover, candidate for the United States presidential nomination, carried the University of Michigan campus by storm in the straw vote held April 2 by faculty members and students. Hoover won on both tickets, and drew nearly as many votes as all the other candidates combined. Out of 4,171 votes cast, Hoover received 1,909, causing one of the greatest political surprises of the year among the political managers who have had headquarters in Ann Arbor, and who have been canvassing the campus for various candidates.
