Contexts for Classics presents Classical Translation Contest

Graduate and undergraduate students across the University of Michigan are invited to submit original translations of texts from Latin, and ancient and modern Greek. This contest is intended to highlight the work of students who are interested in the process of translation as a creative, intellectually meaningful enterprise. Submissions are due by 5 p.m. April 1 at the Comparative Hall Literature Main Office, 2015 Tisch Hall (second floor). Original works may be in prose or verse and translations may be in prose, verse, or other format, such as multi-media. Winners will be invited to present their translations at the annual Classics Department awards ceremony April 21. For more information, go to tinyurl.com/oufh3vu.

U-M Women’s Studies Junior Faculty Scholar named

The Institute for Research on Women and Gender has named U-M Women’s Studies Professor Robert Wyrod its 2015 Junior Faculty Scholar. The competitive award enables untenured faculty working in the field of women, gender and sexuality to advance toward tenure by providing office space and course relief for one semester. Wyrod studies the intersections of gender, sexuality and social change. His first book, “Privilege in a Plague: AIDS and the Remaking of Masculinity in Africa,” examines how the AIDS epidemic has shaped gender and sexuality in Africa. U-M Health System seeks Employee Engagement Survey input

U-M Health System employees are encouraged to “be the change” by taking the Employee Engagement Survey. Employees can take the survey any time by March 27 from a computer on the UMHS network or mobile device with AirWatch and VPN access. U-M Hospitals, Health Centers and Medical School staff who began working at UMHS before Feb. 16 are eligible to take the survey. Dual-appointment employees will be able to take the survey as long as one of their appointments is at UMHS. Temporary employees can also complete the survey.
