This week in history (50 years ago)
Student attention focused on racial bias in the South as it affected jobs, restaurant service and schools, even going so far as to picket a local dime store because in the South this chain did not serve black people. In March 1965 about 50 U-M students joined a protest march from Selma to Montgomery, Alabama, over discrimination in seating on city buses.
